Heart Beat Guides Banff Ski
Banff, Lake Louise, Alberta, Canada … three major resorts in Alberta – Lake Louise the best known, Sunshine Village with wide, high skiing right on the continental divide, and Norquay which is smaller but close to town in Banff. Historic Hudson’s Bay Company has a shop in Banff – the company has been going since the seventeenth century. Loads of alternatives to skiing too … snowmobiling, ballooning, Excellent dog-sledding through the Bow Valley which can be one hour, half day or even up to a five-day adventure. Lake Louise has a ten-minute lift line guarantee – they’ll give you your money back if it’s longer! There’s a green run off every mountain top. 45% intermediate, 35% expert, 20% beginners. Lots of high Alpine bowls – and no off-trail restrictions. If you’re within the boundary you can ski anywhere. Very reasonable eating at the base lodges. Sunshine Village has been hugely expanded in recent years since opening Goat’s Eye Mountain. Sunshine usually runs into June and without snow-making. Brilliant high skiing, with fabulous views. Eighty-two trails and an experience almost like heli-skiing. Norquay is just ten minutes from downtown Banff. It’s a great option for people who like to shop in the morning! Lift lines are very rare. It looks very steep from the road, but the pitch of trails eases round the unseen side of the mountain! Lots of excellent eating and drinking. I just loved the Barbary Coast for top pizzas. The Caboose is very stylish at the old railway depot, superb beef.

Toronto City Guide
Located on the northern shores of Lake Ontario, Toronto is the cultural, commercial and economic center of English-speaking Canada. Despite its size, it's one of the most clean, efficient and safe large cities in the world. The city was once nicknamed "Toronto the Good". Supporters called it this to imply it was hospitable, while to detractors it meant Victorian and dull. In the last half-century, the city has managed to embrace culture, the arts and entertainment without losing its reputation for being safe and friendly. This audio guide offers tips and pertinent information to help you get around the city like a seasoned traveler.

Heart Beat Guides Whistler Ski
Whistler, British Columbia, Canada …This is the winter Olympics venue for 2010 and you can already test yourself on what will become the men’s and women’s downhill and slalom runs. Whistler has a very lively social scene with loads of bars and restaurants. Steve Podborski – the first non-European to win the downhill World Cup talks us through the mountain and its attractions. He rates Whistler with its second mountain – Blackcomb as the best. This is the biggest vertical in North America, bar none! Blackcomb and Whistler have quite different character. There are some very posh big hotels, as well as condos, and small hotels. More than 8,170 skiable acres, the biggest in North America too. This is about 60 per cent bigger than anywhere in the USA. Thirty-seven lifts from magic carpets to high-speed quads and gondolas. Lifts are fast! Glade skiing and high Alpine bowls. Beginners 20%; 55% intermediate. Bobsleigh centre and Nordic centre will be open for 2010. Extra snowmaking will be installed before the Olympics. Ziptrek is a zip-line adventure crossing raging creeks on five zip-lines that run as long as 1100ft. Other top non-ski activities. Heli-skiing; snowmobiling; quiet snowshoe tours etc. Excellent terrain parks for snowboarders four hundred metres plus with all the rails etc in the Black terrain park. Good eating – Chef Bernard’s; good microbrew beers… Pacific northwest of US and Canada hot for microbrews. Try the Timberwolf and others… there’s a winter warmer at 9% alcohol with cinnamon and nutmeg!!
